When filming on location, you are representing yourself, your future reputation as a professional, and DePaul University.
Be aware that your poor handling of a location may affect other filmmakers’ future opportunities to film in that same location. Conversely, your excellent handling of a location may pave the way for future student filmmakers’ use.
Please contact the Production Office after you have worked at a location you find to be student-friendly for us to potentially add them to our future Student Film Location Database.
Students filming on location must have prior approval and obtain a Project Number from the Production Office.
Permits
To film in public spaces, a film permit is generally required by the town. Permitting prices and policies vary by place and often require significant advanced notice.
Students requiring city or park permits must have prior approval and obtain a Project Number from the Production Office.
City of Chicago Permits
For shooting on any street where sidewalk will be blocked for pedestrian access, and for any parking restrictions you wish to place for a street for a shoot, permits are required. Visit the City of Chicago Website to request a permit. Please use your SCA Project Number in the space asking for your project name—the city is aware and requested our project numbers on your applications.
It’s a great idea to also contact the Chicago Film Office directly. The college contact is Alex Vasquez, they manage the permits and would love to know what you are planning, to best guide you and to have your project on their radar.
The contacts for Chicago Film Office, Chicago Park District and CTA are listed below.
