FAQs - Stages
Can I use the stages and classrooms outside of my class time?
Yes! During the quarter, stages and classrooms are primarily used for scheduled classes. You may reserve these spaces (minimum 1 hour) for projects during available periods. No going overtime. Plan ahead to wrap, clean, and be out by the end of your reservation. Click here for operating hours.
Start by filling out a Project Information Form. Once submitted, the Production Office will assign you a Project Number.
Next, make sure you’ve completed your SCA Safety Training on D2L, this is required each school year. Head to Patron Portal, where you can view availability and select your space(s). You can reserve one stage, one classroom, and the Hair & Makeup Room at a time. For multi-day projects, reserve each day separately. Your reservations must be continuous if you plan to leave anything behind overnight.
Note: The Virtual Production/Greenscreen Stage can’t be booked online. To reserve it, email us at [email protected] with your project number, requested time, and a brief description of how you plan to use the space.
Who do I talk to on the day of my shoot?
Find your Stage Assistant, either on your stage or in Room 1508. They’ll help with check-in, answer any questions, and be your point person throughout your time on stage. Make sure to check in with them for a final walkthrough before you leave for the day.
What equipment is included with my stage rental? What if I need more?
Each stage comes with a standard lighting and grip package found here, and all sets are fully dressed. You're welcome to bring additional gear that has been reserved in advance from the Cage, Vault, or Shack, as well as your own props and set dressing.
Make sure to keep things organized (photos and lists help!) so you can easily reset the space and remove anything you brought in.
Please don’t move items between stages or take anything from another stage. If you need something during your shoot, your Stage Assistant is here to help.
Can I change/paint the sets?
Not without asking first! Submit a plan to [email protected], and make sure you include your estimated time to restore everything. Please note: We only allow painting or other major set modifications during summer or other academic breaks.
My shoot is running long. Do I really have to clean up?
Yes! You need to budget time to leave the space better than you found it:
Reset set dressing
Wrap standard equipment back to carts/staging
Remove/return additional gear
Remove tape
Sweep/clean/take out the trash
Can I use fake blood, haze, or other effects?
Yes, with a plan submitted to [email protected] and approved ahead of time. Absolutely no fire, smoke, rain, or water effects. Protect the space and people!
Can I eat on stage?
No. Only water in sealed containers is allowed on stage. Need a spot for crafty or lunch? Set it up in a previously reserved classroom, the common kitchen, or breezeway. Please do not leave any food garbage in the classrooms or on stage. Seriously, don’t feed the rats.
Can I bring a car on stage?
No, we only allow vehicles on stage during class periods under faculty supervision. Otherwise, you may use the breezeway to load/unload quickly, but no parking or blocking traffic.
Am I allowed to turn on the power or operate installed lighting on stage? Is there a handy reference chart?

If you are not completely comfortable with any electrical equipment, it’s always best to ask for assistance!
What if I mess something up, or notice something broken?
Tell your Stage Assistant ASAP. We promise we won’t yell at you. Reporting is better than pretending it didn’t happen.
What gets me in trouble?
Not cleaning up
No-shows
Using unapproved effects
Altering sets without permission
Blocking fire lanes
Being under the influence (yes, even weed)
Breaking the rules can result in loss of rental privileges, fines, and/or cancelled projects.
