If your script includes action that the Production Office may identify as a possible stunt, review the requirements on this page before casting, rehearsing, or filming.

The Production Office uses the Stunt Chart to determine whether a project requires additional discussion, a stunt coordinator, or other support.

Important: Do not begin planning, rehearsing, or filming stunt-related action until the Production Office has reviewed the scene and confirmed the required support and approvals.

What May Count as a Stunt?

Stunt-related action may include, but is not limited to:

Falls, fights, or physical impacts
Choreographed physical action
High-risk movement or physically demanding action
Action involving weapons, vehicles, heights, water, fire, or other hazards
Any action the Production Office identifies as requiring stunt review

How the Review Process Works

Step 1: Review the Stunt Chart

Use the Stunt Chart to understand how the Production Office may evaluate your script and determine the appropriate level of support.

The chart can help you understand whether your project may require:

A professional stunt coordinator
Another form of stunt-related support
Additional Production Office discussion or review

Step 2: Submit Your Project for Review

If your script contains possible stunt action, the Production Office may initiate follow-up through Smartsheet as part of the project review process.

Respond promptly to any Smartsheet requests and provide clear information about the action, performers, location, equipment, safety plan, and requested support.

Step 3: Discuss the Plan with Your Cast and Crew

Talk with your cast and crew about the stunt plan before rehearsal or production.

Performers should never be pressured into actions they have not agreed to perform. Safety concerns should be discussed with the Production Office before rehearsal or production.

Step 4: Hire an Approved Stunt Coordinator if Required

If the Production Office determines that a professional stunt coordinator is required, the student production is responsible for hiring the coordinator.

You must provide the Production Office with the coordinator's proof of certification and/or professional resume for approval before production.

Hiring a stunt coordinator is at the student's expense.

Step 5: Wait for Approval Before Production

Do not rehearse or film stunt-related action until the Production Office has reviewed the plan, approved the required support, and confirmed that the production may proceed.

A project submission, Project Number, Smartsheet request, equipment reservation, or facility reservation does not automatically approve stunt-related action.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for:

Reviewing the Stunt Chart
Identifying possible stunt action in the script
Submitting accurate information through the project review process
Discussing stunt plans with cast and crew
Respecting performer boundaries and safety concerns
Hiring an approved stunt coordinator when required
Providing certification and/or professional credentials to the Production Office
Following all Production Office instructions and safety requirements

Before You Begin

Use this checklist before planning a scene that may require stunt support:

Review the script for possible stunt action.
Review the Stunt Chart.
Confirm whether the project requires Greenlighting.
Submit the project and respond to Smartsheet requests.
Discuss the plan with cast and crew.
Confirm whether a stunt coordinator is required.
Hire an approved stunt coordinator if required.
Submit certification and/or professional credentials to the Production Office.
Wait for approval before rehearsal or production.
